I just wanted to let you know, my wife and I recently returned from a glorious 2 week honeymoon in Paris. It was my first time there. We ate some of the best foods I've ever eaten, including some great chocolates and sweets at some of the best shops in Paris. So many things in Paris are simply incomparable- like the croissants and pain au chocolats. But a week or so into the trip I turned to my wife and said, "but you know, our little Belgian joint on Wilshire has chocolate as good as anything we've eaten here."
I've always appreciated the great quality of your chocolate, and being in Paris and eating such fine things only confirmed this. When I walk into Chocolatt...from Belgium, it's a foregone conclusion that I'm going to buy something. Not because there's a hard-sell, there's none. No slick sales pitch, either. It's the whole feel of the place, like I'm in Europe again. And for me that means-great chocolate! The layout of the chocolates alone, the gorgeous design of each chocolate selection. Add to that the taste. It's kvelling like no other.

I've tried almost every piece that's sold in the store since it opened (well, maybe not all of the sugar-free ones), and I've not been able to say..."um, nah, I don't like that one". It's the opposite. (the biggest surprise were those orange peel strips...I can't get enough of those! And the hot cocoa powder. To die for!)

My girlfriend, Krysten, adores chocolate.

For Valentines Day, I bought her this great selection from Chocolatt...from Belgium. She flipped over them. I knew, as I got ready to propose, that I wanted to incorporate the same Belgium dark chocolate to make the experience perfect.

Krysten and I went to Big Sur to celebrate the onset of summer. At a picnic in our favorite location-Saddle Rock Point, we set about eating the feast I had brought. When it was time for dessert, I told her I had something special. I presented her the unassuming box from Chocolatt. She recognized the design and opened it to hunt for her favorite piece of dark chocolate. The blue oval case, with the ring inside, was about the size of the other chocolates, so I had to coax her to try "that one". Getting down on my knee clarified the situation... After eight years together, I'll let you guess the rest.
